Hear from Core Motion’s Pam Paley about why and when she became interested in fitness, nutrition and living an overall healthy lifestyle.
When did you first become interested in fitness and Pilates?
I started teaching group fitness while in college. As the industry progressed I became more involved and was soon attending additional courses and certifications. Pilates came about when I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a bilateral mastectomy. A client from my spin class took me to meet her Pilates teacher to “just try it,” as she thought it would help me regain my strength and also range of movement. After 3 sessions I became hooked. Eventually I became Group Fitness Director of Princeton Fitness and Wellness Center in New Jersey, and then for the same owners for the Robert Wood Johnson Center for Health and Wellness where I was director of both group fitness and Pilates.
What made you decide to launch Core Motion?
I know from my own experience how much Pilates and strength training helped me physically, but I wasn’t expecting how much it also positively affected me mentally and emotionally as I went through some of life’s trials and tribulations. Especially when I was sick, exercise was the one thing I had control over. For me, feeling strong and being able to live a healthy life is why I chose to launch Core Motion. I wanted to give the same confidence and joy that I gained from fitness and nutrition to others with the hope that my clients would also realize the benefits of wellness and how it shapes our lives.
Why should clients choose Core Motion over other personal fitness and/or Pilates studios?
Clients should choose Core Motion because of the attention and prioritization given to each individual program. We begin by listening to each new client’s desired fitness and health goals, and then discuss any medical or physical issues they may have. Once we begin a personalized program, we continually revisit these goals and discuss any new needs that may arise, as these are constantly changing. Additionally, Core Motion offers a wide range of services that feed into a tailored fitness regimen for each individual client based on their needs. Not only do we teach Pilates, but we also develop nutrition plans, golf programs, customized retreats and more.
What is one thing that you would like your clients to know about you? About Core Motion?
I love what I do and am so fortunate to have amazing clients that have been with me for years. I constantly attend ongoing educational courses to better myself and my understanding of the body.
If you were on a deserted island and could only take 3 things with you, what would they be and why?
A sweatshirt with gloves built-in (I’m always cold), sunscreen, a cell phone, chocolate (I heard there may be a shortage soon!), my dogs, a paddleboard, my camera…wait that’s more than three things.
